MONICA GILL : LIFE COACHING + CONSULTING
Hey! I'm Monica.
I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with my husband of 13 years and our two boys, ages five and almost one. We're Wisconsinites, born and raised, but we spend as much winter as we can in Southern California, a part of the world that’s always felt more like home to me than anywhere else.
I’m a recovering people-pleaser, in that I’ve spent a lot of my life doing things that made sense to and for other people. In my most recent former professional work as personal image consultant and stylist, I sat with hundreds of women (including some admirable men) discussing outer beauty and personal style, and it didn't take long to understand that lasting outer change is connected to inner work. I learned a lot about that inner work - not just about my individual clients, but about myself, human behavior, personality, and this journey called life. And I spent a lot of time wondering WHO AM I REALLY?
When someone asks that “who am I?” question, I like to ask "What’s always been true of you?" Through all my roles in life and business, I have always been an advisor, a refiner, an innovator with a thousand ideas. I have always been a writer. I’m the one my friends tap for business and career advice. I love transformations, startups, and Cinderella stories. I crave mocktails, sunshine, topography, and crazy-out-of-nowhere thunderstorms. I love to laugh and make others laugh. And I really love cats.
Do you ever ask yourself that - “Who am I really?” Maybe you’re a multipotentialite, polymath, jill-of-all trades renaissance woman and your life looks something of a mishmash like mine. Maybe you’ve been on a path that’s bored you for the last ten years - or one that just doesn’t get you firing on all cylinders. Maybe you’re a stay-at-home mom for whom that question is only wondered silently in the middle of the night. Boy do I get it.
If these thoughts resonate with you, then you are my people. Follow me on Facebook or sign up for my email list (scroll down) and let’s keep in touch. I’ve traveled this path, and I’m here to throw you a line.
Do you know what a cornerman is?
I was never much into mainstream athletics. I did synchronized swimming and kickboxing.
In combat sports, the coach assisting the fighter during a bout is called a cornerman.
When I think of my role as a coach, I imagine myself as a cornerman. That’s what you get when you hire me. I’m in your corner.
Except I’m not a man.
So I looked up “corner woman.”
First result is a square-dancing reference. A “corner lady” is the woman at a man’s left. Lol no.
Scroll past some “women’s corners” of the world wide web—wouldn’t want to take up too much space, just a corner!
Next is urban dictionary’s definition of “corner girl”: A prostitute. Or possibly a girl selling drugs. Yeah no.
Followed by some wallflower-type references (“Single? You missed the woman in the corner!”) and stock photos of women peeking around doorways.
So I’m creating the definition of #cornerwoman, which means:
I'm your cornerwoman. Nice to meet you.
